CLUB NEWSWARMINSTER PHILATELIC SOCIETYMAY 2025 VISIT OF JAMES PODGEROn the 13th May 2025 we had our penultimate meeting of the season. Our visiting speaker was James Podger, James is a well-known Philatelist and is a member of the Royal Society, he has displayed all over the world and has been a gold medal winner in various competitions, this was Jame’s third visit to Warminster and we were very pleased to host him for the evening. James displayed some of his outstanding collection of postal history of the British West Indies which included extracts from his gold medal collection of the British Virgin Islands.James’s display included nearly 200 sheets and contained many unique items with Letters, envelopes and postal items from as early as 1709 to the late 1800s. James gave a very comprehensive review of the material including many anecdotes about the senders and receivers, explanations of the varied mail routes and of course the varied postage rates.

ALL ABOUT US
WHAT TO EXPECTDISPLAYSWe usually have 6 to 8 guest speakers each season, they will display all aspects of philately on a wide range of subjects.
In addition to guests speakers club members also display a wide range of items from their own collections.AUCTION OR BOURSEWe also have an annual auction or bourse. The auction or bourse both provide an opportunity for club members to buy and sell, and a small percentage of sales goes to club funds.STAMP FAIRLast year the club re-introduced its Stamp Fair, which was very well supported by Stamp Dealers and buyers. Normally held at Kingdown School, details will be made available on this website.SOCIALISING
Club members can socialise, and display elements of their collection, and share their interests with others
REFRESHMENTS INCLUDEDA small annual subscription currently £10, helps to cover the hire of the hall, insurances, and refreshments. We usually have a Xmas get together, and at the start of the season a buffet is provided as part of "The Chairman's Evening".COMPETITIONS:
The society hosts its own competition for members who enjoy displaying parts of their collection, usually under specific themes or titles.
There is also the opportunity to progress to the Wiltshire Federation Competition — and perhaps even further into National Competitions.
CLUB or APPROVAL BOOKS
The club runs a healthy monthly circulation of approval books, with contents that are sensibly priced. These provide a great opportunity to acquire new material at bargain prices — all from the comfort of your own home.
